Enjoying The Last of the Dog Days of Summer

Hello friends,

We at Something Splendid hope you are enjoying each and every glorious second of these dog days of summer. Which raises two great questions: what are the dog days of Summer and where did that term come from!?

Some say that it signifies hot sultry days “not fit for a dog,” while others suggest it’s the weather in which dogs go mad. We tend to think of the Dog Days of Summer as the most oppressive period of summer, between July 3rd and August 11th each year!

The phrase is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time of year, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. In fact, Sirius, is sometimes called the Dog Star.

Something else you should know? Something Splendid has new dog bandanas available from The Foggy Dog and dog toys! from The Paws. With our newest, curated Dog Days of Summer box, we’ve made it easy for you to snag a goodie or two for your fur friend or any fur friend.

We absolutely love both companies and are excited for you to shop their products. The Foggy Dog is a fellow female-run brand you’ve likely seen in stores like Anthropologie and Nordstrom, dedicated to making pet products that are as beautiful as they are functional. The Paws was started with love and passion for Bali, and helping furry friends on the beautiful tropical island. What’s not to love about either?!

From bandanas to toys, Something Splendid is excited to offer up a variety of fun, engaging dog gifts this summer! So shop our Dog Days of Summer box or Build Your Own, just don’t forget to grab doggo a little Something Splendid! Most importantly, be sure to tag @somethingsplendidco on Instagram once your goodies arrive -- we love making dogs feel like models and you could see YOURS featured on our page.

Your friendly, summer-lovin’ dog-ladies,
