Give back this Giving Tuesday + every day

Shop Small Saturday may be behind us, but there’s another occasion to get excited about — Giving Tuesday. In case you’re unfamiliar, Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Created in 2012 as a simple idea  — a day that encourages people to do good  — it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Here are four quick facts about Giving Tuesday, to get you excited about Giving Tuesday 2020:

  1. In 2019, $510,000,000 were raised online.
  2. Since 2012, #GivingTuesday has generated over $1 billion in the U.S. alone

We’re all-in on highlighting organizations who give back each and every day. Here are just some of the businesses whose missions you support each time you shop Something Splendid. You’ll find them in our Curated Boxes as well as an option to include in your custom gift box when you Build Your Own.

Bitchstix in Love you, Mean it box

Bitchstix
These cruelty-free lip and body balms are backed by a mission: to awaken people to their self-worth, and to encourage them to live boldly and courageously. We do this in two ways: By putting “BITCH” in the name of a product that soothes and restores. They’re appropriating a word that has historically been used to inflict shame, and attaching it to an agent of restoration. BITCHSTIX donates to retailer-nominated nonprofit organizations that support survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Sky Outfitters
Another brand dedicated to giving back in a meaningful way is Sky Outfitters, whose mission is to help meet the needs of homeless shelters around the country through providing some of the most requested apparel items. Founder Keaton Hendricks and his team love waking up every day knowing that they are able to work on something that impacts other people, and believe that the best way to help the homeless population is by empowering shelters who are professionally trained to help reach their communities. It is their hope that through providing these much-needed items, they're building trust and expressing love.

For each item you buy from Sky Outfitters, they will give one to their shelter of the month. Their end goal is simple but noble - to not only raise as many socks as they can, but to also involve the community with different events and put a spotlight on their shelter for long-term impact and involvement.

LAPCOS

Giving back and supporting worthy causes is at the heart of LAPCOS, who believes that the best skin, body and hair formulas are key to achieving everyday health & wellness, but ultimately, beauty is an inside job. In 2020, their team has supported ten causes, whose missions range from protecting and advancing the health and wellness of Black women and girls, to serving women and families overcoming abuse, addiction, homelessness and poverty to help restore hope and dignity in their lives, and beyond.

Teleties in Hello Sunshine box

Teleties

With each TELETIES purchase, their team donates to FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered), a non-profit organization that aims toward improving the lives of people and families affected by hereditary breast, ovarian and related cancers. Millions of people possess a genetic mutation that increases their risk for these cancers and are completely unaware.

Teleties founder, Lindsay, understands firsthand how important non-profit organizations like FORCE can be in providing resources and early detection. She was tested at a young age because her father carried the BRCA1 mutation and thankfully tested negative. Having never met her grandmother who passed away from breast cancer at the age of 36, Lindsay promised herself that she would do her part to educate others and bring awareness to the BRCA1 mutation.

Whether donating, doing, supporting, encouraging or motivating, take every chance to support your community and give back to those who need it. Something Splendid will remain committed to bringing you amazing products by companies doing amazing things in the world we live in, because we are ALL in this together!

Always thankful,
